About Claire and her journey
I spent 20 years teaching in secondary schools, where I found the most meaningful part of my role was pastoral—supporting young people balancing health challenges alongside the demands of school and adolescence.
Over time, I became increasingly aware of how hard some students had to work just to keep up, and how rarely the systems around them made that easier. I began coaching other teachers, which led me into health psychology.
I’m now in the final year of a Professional Doctorate, researching how young people navigate the transition from paediatric to adult healthcare. Recently, I made the decision to fully commit to my private practice, working with individuals, families and schools.
For the first time, I feel able to bring together all of my experience, skills and qualifications to truly support the people I work with—nothing left at the door.
Proudest moment
Leaving employment to fully commit to my private practice. Balancing work, family life, an MSc and a Doctorate over the past four years has shown me what I’m capable of.
Best piece of business advice
Done is better than perfect—even if it still needs the occasional reminder.
Top tip for other businesswomen
Talk about your ideas—plans, dreams and even the “crazy” ones. The most unexpected conversations often lead to real opportunities.
Being part of SBN
The network offers fantastic opportunities, and I’m really looking forward to attending my first meeting, connecting with other local women in business and learning from those who’ve already walked this path.
